This is a question that should not be asked. iPod is amongst the most popular products in this world and I consider it can easily stand side by side with Coca-Cola or McDonalds.
The video ipod is the shiny mp3 player that, even if it performs quite the same functions as other mp3 players, it has reached epic levels due to its extremely aggresive marketing campaign. The Apple people have achieved greatest success not by the product itsself but by the marketing that made it not only a brand but a symbol mp3 player.
The Apple iPod can be easily used as an external hard drive, and with its sizes of 30GB to 80 GB it can easily handle the task.
The Apple iPod comes in different shapes and sizes. I own a 30 GB model and a 60GB mode and I will present them.
I will here share you my story about this devices that got me addicted. I will tell you what you get when you buy the video iPod, what you need when you buy the Apple Video iPod and most important that what you buy is not all that you need. I'll tell you what accesories you need, how the device comes almost stripped of everything and its flaws and performances.
I did the research anyone does before buying anything. I looked at most available mp3 players from the sort of premium section but the iPod name made me decide. Reviews were great regarding quality of playback, I liked they way it looked so it was an easy choice.
I checked out local prices and buying online was much easier and more affordable. So I placed the order on Amazon.com and prayed.
At the end of the article I placed a list of what is missing and how much you need that certain item.
Finally it arrived and my first shock regarding the ipod were the box's sizes. It is scary to order a product and see a very small box arrive instead. A little nervous I opened the box. Found inside the apple box:
This was my first shock: Where was my wall Socket iPod charger? What if I did not have a computer in reach?
This has been the most obious missing element as I wanted to charge the iPod in the trip I was about to take and of course I was not about to carry my computer along.
Keep in mind the iPod pouch they provide is cute but not really usable. So I realised I also needed a new case, a proper iPod case that allows me to do my thing and view the iPod screen without removing it everytime.
A new iPod screen protective payer was also required. And not to forget the iPod car charger you will obviously need as the iPod has been designed with portability in mind.
In both looks and sound quality the iPod excels. I'm not a music professional but I have a very critical ear and I can notive any problems in sound. The iPod never let me down. It sounds great and looks great and store a lot of songs (the iPod can virtually store all your songs).
The battery lasts long but not as they say in the ipod specifications. Certainly not 14 hours in extensive usage. Maybe it go to 14 hours in locked state and untouched. But less usage time is to be expected depending on the light the screen uses especially. On really sunny days disable the screen light and you'll get some extra juice to keep your iPod running.
The iTunes is trash, especially to power users like myself I had to find an alternative to fit into the Windows Explorer and I did. But I'll dedicate the software that saved my iPod life and spcial page on this site. Check back soon!

As the iPod is made to be carried around you should get a boombox to play the iPod music. I got a stereo that connects with the iPod and you can take it to the beach and so. Works on batteries or socket power. I also got a case for it.
If you plan to listed to music in noisy places the headphones that come along with the iPod will not do it. You will need noise cancelling ones that will allow you to enjoy music with no exterior distractions. Caution: Noise Cancelling Headphones are a hazard to your health. Do not wear them on the street.
For real effect you need to swim listening to your iPod. So you have to get the water proof iPod case and headphones.
If you feel like working out and listening to the iPod you need an armband.
An iPod Radio Transmitter / Casette Adapter is also necessary to enjoy music in your car.
