What does SEO.Assist do?

I called this component SEO.Assist and it does a very basic thing for now but I will keep developing it with more and more features and I'm open to your requests as long as they don't say: Do a Firefox extension!

If you look at the image below you will notice some extra informations displayed in the search result entry. I added the domain age (for TLDs) and the Google PageRank of the URL. I made this component for personal use but I then decided to share it with those interested.

In images below you can see how the search results will look while using this SEO tool. First image is the regular search result (site older then two years). Second image marks sites younger than one one year and third image (a random site) represents a site that is younger then two years but older then one.

Sites younger then two years that appear in SERPs have done something right and diserve your full attention and SEO analysis. Watch their linking pattern carefully and see what you can get out of them.

Why I needed this?

I was curious to see if any new site can rank and the sad conclusion I reached is that the new ones don't rank and, unless you are a mummy, your site has almost no chance for any remotely competitive keyphrase. It's like the web is a sealed community where the new ones can't get in.

It's also easy to spot the gems in competition and replicate their behaviour or just to show your SEO clients it takes time to rank where they want to be so they don't bug you all the time.

How does SEO.Assist it work?

It is a component that installs in Internet Explorer and then detects the moment you search for something in Google, Yahoo!, LIVE. After the search results page is loaded, in a matter of seconds (less then 3-5) you will notice the new informations appearing in the serps.

To uninstall it make sure Internet Explorer and use the uninstall link present in the Start Menu.

Security Issues:

I run Windows XP x64 Pro and I use McAffee Antivirus 8.5i (for x64) updated daily. The component is presumably clean, as my system is, but it's best if you have an antivirus software enabled at all times. It is 32bit compatible even if developed in 64bit environment. The worst it can do is crash Internet Explorer but I could not manage to do this. If it happens just uninstall and it's done.

The component will cache informations in some .bin files saved in its folder. So once it queries a PR and Age it will save them for later use. To clear cache just delete these .bin cache files.

The component does not send away any kind of informations (sensitive or not) from your computer to any 3rd party. It will only access Whois Servers for Age and Google for PR value.

Looking for your feedback!

Come back to me with new features and ideas and stay sharp as I will be updating this. I'll keep this component as a long term project and I will keep adding features to it, features I consider of general interest. And give a link back or checkout the support link on top if you find this usefull.

Had a small issue to fix but got around it much faster then expected.
I'll add cookies tomorrow. The lack of stored info insured the quality of the posters. ;)
