Great time those were. I used to wake up in the morning seeing the generator finished the few websites I had queued. XML files were standing in front of my eyes eager to drive traffic and bucks. The site looked nice, the wrong stuff was cloaked and it was the dawn of a new blackhat day.
The fresh domains had just put on the nameservers and were ready to work. The PHP system which handled the XML files and made the site was also in place. I uploaded the XML files zipped and bang … the 100-250 pages site was up. Looking nice read for it's short but fruitful life.
Then I went to the spam department. I grabbed about 20.000 WIKIS, 5.000 Guestbooks, 10.000 referer spammable sites and few thousand trackbacks and bang. The broadband was starting to overheat. In less then one hour, less then 30 minutes sometimes it was all done.
Never did real damage. I always hit few links, right where they had to go. Not like the idiots throwing 100s of links on one page. Some pages were several MB size but still in index. And then the robots came! One by one. The site was in index in a maximum 3 days in all the big3! MSN was the first to flood with traffic, Google was more selective but when it releasing its traffic upon me … oh GOD! Yahoo! has always been crap. It never liked me.
But things have slowly began to change!
Some spamming might still work but large-scale is so out that it hurts. There are a lot of people saying: I have millions of pages in the index! And I'll say back at them: Who gives a fuck? They are all supplementals! and he says back: Supplemental index is out! and I say: No shit?
A lot of upfront spammy links to a new site will simply kill it. If you don't get some good links that site will never rank. Google swallows all the crap in its index. It's the:
Mine is bigger than yours!
… psychological issue. They have a big index but I bet over 80% is in supplemental hell. And no! Supplementals are not gone and I don't think they will ever be. Hope Google proves me wrong with this one!
In terms of spamming XRummer is dead! I have 3+1 friends and have all been reporting the same thing. It's hard to even get sites indexed. I never used it because I'm not comfortable with the idea of spamming a forum. Guestbooks are designed to handle many comments and it's like throwing shit in a forest. On the other hand forums are human inhabited and the shit may hit an admin in the forehead. And these ones are so eager to report. They live for this! It makes them horny (horny link provided by netizen).
XRummer would still be good to promote a legit site on same-topic forums as it's automated. But that's it.
I'll tell you in a new post real soon where you can go when the world of linkspam has crumbled upon you!
